Clinical Pilates

A Physiotherapist-led Pilates class that is tailored to the individual’s needs.

Strength, Control & Recovery

In comparison to regular Pilates, where the group are expected to be of a very similar standard, Clinical Pilates involves a one-to-one assessment with a Physiotherapist to determine your physical health state, highlighting areas that may need further attention and shaping of a Pilates routine to help you to achieve your goals.

Performed in small classes, our Clinical Pilates classes allows you to enjoy the benefits of social interaction (a well-known component that helps to promote overall well-being), whilst also allowing the Physiotherapist to keep a close eye on your performance and progression of your Pilates skill levels.

Qualified instructors

Our instructors are APPI Matwork Level 3 qualified, with a strong background in physiotherapy and extensive experience delivering Clinical Pilates. Every session is grounded in clinical knowledge, ensuring exercises are safe, effective and tailored to your individual needs—whether you’re recovering from injury, managing a condition, or looking to improve movement and strength.

Benefits of clinical pilates

Prefer one-to-one?

If you would prefer to perform your Clinical Pilates in a smaller group setting, here at JP Physio we are able to offer one-to-one or one-to-two sessions for that more personal touch, in order for you to maximise your contact time with your Physiotherapist.

Clinical Pilates Sessions

Each Clinical Pilates session includes a series of controlled exercises focusing on core strength, posture, stability, and flexibility. You’ll use mats, resistance bands, and small equipment to work through movements at your own pace, with hands-on guidance and corrections from your physiotherapist throughout. Sessions are low-impact but challenging, with every exercise adapted to your individual needs and goals.

Postnatal Clinical Pilates

This will depend on your individual recovery, birth experience, and how you are feeling physically.

As these small group sessions are taught by a Physiotherapist, you may be able to begin as soon as you feel capable and ready to start exercising. However, if you are looking to start before 6 weeks following a vaginal birth or before 12 weeks following a caesarean birth, you may be advised to have a Women’s Health Physiotherapy consultation before joining the group sessions.

All participants will complete an Initial Clinical Pilates Consultation prior to joining a class. This allows us to assess your recovery, discuss any concerns or symptoms, and ensure the programme is tailored appropriately to your individual needs.

Yes, babies are very welcome.

For the best experience for you and the group, these sessions tend to work best when babies are not yet on the move. If your baby is becoming mobile, you’re still welcome to attend, but it can be helpful to bring activities, toys, books, or anything else that may help keep them happily occupied during the session.

We recommend bringing:

  • A blanket or play mat
  • Favourite toys or activities
  • Any feeding supplies you may need
  • Anything that helps your baby feel comfortable and settled

That’s absolutely fine too. Many mums choose to attend without their baby, and you’re very welcome to come by yourself if that feels easier.

Of course. Your baby’s needs come first. You’re welcome to feed your baby on your mat or move to one of the chairs at the side of the room—whatever feels most comfortable for you and your baby.

Prams can be parked just outside the studio room during the session.

Postnatal Clinical Pilates can help:

  • Rebuild core and pelvic floor strength
  • Improve posture and body awareness
  • Support recovery after pregnancy and birth
  • Address common postnatal aches and pains
  • Improve strength and confidence in movement
  • Provide dedicated time to focus on your own wellbeing

No. The classes are suitable for beginners and those with previous Pilates experience. Exercises are tailored to your individual recovery and ability level.
